The Euro-Burma Office welcomes proposals from
organizations working to promote democracy in Burma.
Projects
must uphold and promote democratic values and human rights. These include
inclusive and non-discriminatory policies and practices. Projects should
reflect gender and age-sensitive approaches to programming. A focus is
promoting the participation of disenfranchised communities.
Proposals should demonstrate relevance to at least one of
the 9 activity areas of the EBO below:
1.Briefings
and to the international community.
2.Support
for the development of political parties based on democratic principles in
Burma.
3.Support
for the development and empowerment of civil society in Burma.
4.Political
support for Burmese migrant workers in neighbouring countries, and overseas.
5.Support
for intra- and inter-ethnic consultations to broaden and deepen the political
consensus on a future democratic Burma, and how this can be achieved.
6.Support
for the development of broad-based political institutional infrastructures in
Burma with the mandate to develop strategies and priorities to implement the
consensus, as well as to communicate this consensus to the international
community.
7.Support
for the development of a primary database to enable institutions to develop a
comprehensive human resources development program.
8.Support
for internships and capacity building programs for civil administrators and
civil society actors especially women and youth and the disenfranchised.
9.Support
for independent ethnic media, as a way to include smaller communities in the
democracy movement and also help them to preserve their languages and cultures.
EBO
is committed to remaining responsive to the changing needs of organizations
working on a transition to democracy; therefore, we have four deadlines for
calls for proposals each year. These will then be reviewed by the EBO Programme
Committee.
